A Modest ResortIt is quite common for cities that often receive tourists to aim towards this crowd and try to commercialize it. St. Augustine does do this, but does it in a manner in which is not so much in your face, and casually contributes to the atmosphere of the area. This makes the stay in the area feel much more genuine, and less of a tourist trap (though it might be considered one).

Colonial Spanish HistoryEstablished in 1565 by the Spanish and later a site for plantations, St. Augustine is deemed one of, and possibly the oldest, still-existent cities in the United States. It is also the supposed location of the fountain of youth! All these elements have provided St. Augustine with a rich cultural and architectural history. St. Augustine is the location for the oldest free black settlement in the U.S., and also the oldest wooden schoolhouse in the U.S.. It is also the site for multiple large-scale forts and cathedrals as well. In order to share all the information about the region to the public, multiple museums have been constructed in the area as well.

BeachesAs St. Augustine is on the Floridan coast, it is able to boast 42 miles worth of beautiful beaches, some of which have historical significance. Most of these beaches offer a range of facilities, including shopping areas and restaurants. They also offer varying ecosystems, including wetlands, estuaries, and dunes, home to a wide range of different organisms. No matter what an individual's preference is when it comes to beaches, there is at least one I promise they will enjoy.
