Water AccessThe Outer Banks stretches 200 miles as barrier islands from Virginia to North Carolina. On average, the Outer Banks is less than a mile in width, and at its greatest, the Outer Banks is only about 2.5 miles in width, providing easy access to the seaside and soundside, depending on whichever one you are interested in for the day, no matter where you are located at on the Outer Banks.

Less ComercializedThe Outer Banks can get very busy in-season in certain areas/towns. The least crowded areas (and also the places I would recommend) are located between Corolla and Kitty Hawk. This area is generally less developed in terms of commercialization, and does not have nearly as many shops, stores, and attractions that are associated with tourist traps.

Diverse OpportunitiesThe area between Corolla and Kitty Hawk offer a wide range of activities and events that anybody can participate in. With access to both the open ocean and the sound, the opportunities are practically endless. For example, the sound allow for leisure activities, such as kayaking and paddle boarding, while the open ocean allows for things like surfing. Fishing charters and fishing piers are also available in the area. If you travel further north to Corolla, you would likely see wild horses on the beaches like the ones pictured to the left. If you would want to take a break from the ocean for a day, many other amenities are available, such as volleyball, tennis, spas, and pools.
